Ketton Bowls Club

Ketton Bowls Club celebrates its 48th anniversary season with a team in each of the First Division and Second Divisions of the Stamford & District Bowls League. Kestrels were fourth-placed in the top tier of the league revised because of the Covid pandemic last season while Kites were runners-up in Division Two.

The main focus for this year, as well as maintaining the club’s competitiveness, is to recruit more players and raise funds towards a new all-purpose mower/scarifier. Previously the club has received generous contributions from Citizens Advice in Rutland, the village’s Whitebread Trust and Rutland Trust towards a new clubhouse which opened in 2019.

Members are working hard on at least two bowls galas (July 6 & August 31) as well as regular coffee mornings, dance, quizzes and potentially lucrative bank holiday car boots on Thursday June 2 (coinciding with the Platinum Jubilee celebrations) and Monday August 29.

Club President Charlie Underwood also aims to boost further cash from his President’s Day scheduled for September 3.

The club’s green continues to receive much care and refurbishment thanks to the efforts of its members and is planning 16 friendly matches and a series of Wednesday night roll-ups to introduce new players to the game.

Ketton bowlers will also compete in the Peterborough & District Over 55 and weekend leagues and Northants Federation competitions, the club’s Shirley Suffling and Chris Ford having claimed the club’s fifth English Bowling Federation title when they won the Women’s Senior Pairs at Skegness in August 2021.
