Ketton Bowls Club
Having celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2014, Ketton Bowls Club is looking forward to creating more history at its Pit Lane green in 2018. It aims to make further strides in its membership with the benefit of its the new, adjoining Community Centre clubhouse in which it is able to host visiting players.
The club, whose green has undergone much refurbishment in recent years, thanks to the sterling efforts of its greenkeeper Mark Hammond and its members, will again host popular Gala days in July and August as well as a president’s day against the Northants Men’s and Women’s Bowling Federations.
This coming season the club aims to attract at least 40 players competing in seven teams across the Stamford and Peterborough leagues and a number of friendlies.
Individuals, wearing the club’s British Sugar-sponsored shirts, will also take part in NBF and NWBF county competitions in which it has achieved great successes in the past.
The club bowlers support these county competitions loyally year after year – indeed its women bowlers featured in five finals in 2017, won two titles in 2016 and hosted the finals in 2015 for the first time.
That year club officer Bob Warters, also serving as Northants President at the time, claimed the county senior singles – beating clubmate Peter Edwards in the final – and went on to win the national title, too.
The club had previously won the women’s national triples (1995/96) and under 25 singles (1986).
Determined to establish itself as one of the most progressive clubs in the area, Ketton will again provide regular bowls improvement sessions on Wednesday evenings under the expert eye of its player-coach John Little.
